Approach to Teaching
I believe the best approach to teaching begins with self-understanding and deep listening to those with whom you are working. What is special about Peace and Conflict Studies, as a field, is that every single person has experiences of peace and conflict in their own lives. This means that everyone brings the expertise of their lived experiences into the learning environment. With this in mind, I consider myself a facilitator and guide rather than an expert on anyone else’s life. I approach each teaching opportunity as a co-learning space where both faculty and students come together with honesty, unconditional respect, sensitivity, openness and a willingness to collaborate and be challenged.
